Earth Day Brings on Cheers from Fanatic Fountain Fans
Green Zone Water Cooler an Environmental Hit
April 21, 2009 (YOUNGSTOWN, OH) – This Earth Day, consumers will be able to enjoy safe, healthy, premium water from their own customized water cooler while reducing their impact on the environment and at the same time cheering on their favorite team. The Fanatic Fountains Green Zone Water Coolers are customized with popular collegiate team graphics and color, but more importantly, they are Energy Star Rated with many environmental benefits.
"People don’t realize the negative impact plastic bottles can have on the environment or the amount of contaminants that are in regular tap water," says Matt Prologo, President of Fanatic Fountains, and also the company’s Founder. "Our coolers are extremely energy efficient and they eliminate the need for plastic bottles, which accounts for thousands of tons of global warming pollution and other air pollutions every day. They also eliminate the risk of drinking hazardous contaminants, which we know are found in everyday tap water."
While consumers are initially attracted to their favorite team’s logo and graphics, it’s the health benefits and environmental friendly approach that has them cheering the most.
"We're excited that we are able to offer consumers such a fun and innovative approach to drinking water," says Prologo, "but we’re even more proud to provide them with an environmentally-friendly and healthy way to store and consume their water. It makes this Earth Day all the better, knowing we’re helping them leave a better world for their children and also improving their health."
The production and transportation of bottled water has significant environmental impacts:
- Massive amounts of greenhouse gases are produced during the nonrenewable, petroleum-based manufacturing of plastic bottles.
- The transportation of these bottles consumes a significant amount of energy.
- Over the last few years, the equivalent of 2 billion half-liter bottles of water were shipped to U.S. ports, creating thousands of tons of global warming pollution and other air pollution.
- In the United States, an estimated 75 percent of these bottles are thrown in the trash instead of being recycled.
- 60 million plastic bottles a day are disposed of in America alone. While most of these bottles are made from recyclable PET plastic, only about 13 percent of the bottles we use are recycled.
- In 2005, 2 million tons of plastic water bottles ended up clogging landfills instead of getting recycled.
- The carbon footprint for one container load of plastic bottles dumped in a landfill is equivalent to the pollution created by a commercial airliner flying across the country.
