FREE Community Service Workshop
Educational Workshop to Educate Seniors on Reverse Mortgages

April 7, 2009 (Boardman, OH) – Brandon Davis, a Reverse Mortgage Specialist with 1st Metropolitan Mortgage, announced today that he will hold a FREE community service workshop for Valley residents on reverse mortgages. The workshop, which will also include refreshments, is designed to educate seniors about the truths and myths of reverse mortgages.

Reverse mortgages have become very popular with senior citizens. They are being touted as a way for those 62 and over to improve their standard of living. Many seniors are turning to reverse mortgages as a way to survive in these difficult economic times. Beyond that, however, they are also valuable when used as an estate planning and asset management tool.

About Reverse Mortgages

A reverse mortgage is a loan that enables senior homeowners (age 62+) to convert part of their home equity into tax-free money, without having to sell their home, give up title, or make monthly payments. The loan only becomes due when the borrower leaves the home. In short, rather than making mortgage payments, reverse borrowers typically get cash back, without having to make payment until the house is sold or the homeowner passes away.

Reverse mortgages have been around since the 1980’s, and have been traditionally used as a way for seniors to maintain their standard of living in retirement. Now, with a down economy and a significant change to the program this past year making it more appealing to seniors, more people are using it as a safe, secure, solution for their immediate funding needs.

Reverse mortgages continue to be one of the few areas of growth within the mortgage industry. The reverse mortgage loan volume has been on an upward trend since 2001, with growth expected to continue for the next several years.
